Devon Freewheelers are among this year’s beneficiaries. Who are Devon Freewheelers?
Devon Freewheelers are volunteers who give up their time and often their own money to provide a free service to the NHS transporting supplies around the county and beyond. These include urgently needed medical supplies, blood, drugs and human tissues that need to be transported between hospitals and the blood transfusion service.
This work is carried out outside of the normal working day and 24hrs during weekends and bank holidays. No matter what the weather there are volunteers standing by around the county. You’ll meet many of them at the festival.
They receive no funding from any source and rely entirely on public donations and corporate sponsorship to keep their service alive. Please give generously when we’re passing the buckets around!
Information about the work they do can be found on their website. www.bloodbikesdevon.org.uk.
